HBCU HOMECOMINGS Black Excellence on Full Display
BY DR. DAVID STATEN
You feel it before you ever reach the stadium. You hear it in the marching band rehearsing in the distance. You see it in the sea of school colors, Greek letters, alumni paraphernalia, and generations of graduates walking across campus as though they never left. You experience it in the embraces between classmates who may not have seen one another in ten, twenty, or even thirty years, yet somehow pick up exactly where they left off. For a few unforgettable days, the campus becomes more than a university. It becomes home again. HBCU Homecoming is certainly a celebration, but it is also something much greater. It is a living demonstration of history, achievement, culture, resilience, community, and possibility. There is something extraordinary about an HBCU Homecoming.
It is Black excellence on full display.
