answered that call in a powerful way.
His devotion to his alma mater is not performative; it is personal. As the 20th National President of the Southern University Alumni Federation, he is doing more than leading; he is cultivating legacy. He is strengthening alumni engagement, mobilizing resources, and ensuring that Southern University continues to stand as a beacon of opportunity for generations to come. His leadership reflects a deep understanding that the strength of an institution is rooted in the collective commitment of its alumni. When you walk in purpose, recognition becomes inevitable, not because you seek it, but because your work speaks. Being named the 2024 HBCU National Alumni President of the Year by the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame is not just an honor; it is a reflection of the lives he has touched, the doors he has helped open, and the standard he continues to set. What resonates most deeply is his commitment to those who are often unseen. Through his service on the board of Court Appointed Special Advocates, Carlton stepped into spaces where advocacy is essential. He worked to ensure that children in foster care, particularly African American children, were not overlooked but uplifted. That kind of service comes from empathy and a genuine desire to make a difference. His leadership continues to expand through prestigious programs such as the Baton Rouge Area Chamber Leadership Class and Forum225, and through his role on the BREC Planning and Park Resources Advisory Committee. As a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., he embodies a tradition that calls men to lead, serve, and uplift with integrity. Equally powerful is the partnership he shares with his wife, Dr. Courtney P. Jones. Together, they own and operate Jones Creek Family Dentistry in Baton Rouge, a practice rooted in compassion, excellence, and community care. Under Dr. Jones’ leadership, the practice has become a trusted provider of high quality dental services for families
across the region. Their approach goes beyond treatment, focusing on patient education, preventive care, and creating a welcoming environment that reflects their shared values. Through their work, they are not only improving oral health but also strengthening the well being of the community they serve. Despite his many accomplishments, Carlton has not lost sight of what matters most. The true measure of a man is not found in titles, but in relationships. His greatest pride is his family, his wife and their three children, Colby, Celina, and Carlton Anthony, affectionately known as Tre. They are his foundation, his motivation, and his greatest legacy.
Carlton B. Jones Jr.’s life is a reminder that success is not about accumulation. It is about contribution, about showing up, pouring into others, and leaving every space better than you found it. When you live that way, you do not just build a résumé. You build a life that matters.
