ELEVATION AND TRANSFORMATION AT CLAFLIN UNIVERSITY

F ive years ago, Claflin University inaugurated its ninth president, Dr. Dwaun J. Warmack. The Warmack era began following the 25-year presidency of Dr. Henry N. Tisdale. Alumni, students and the entire HBCU community were focused on the transition of leadership at Claflin. Dr. Warmack hit the Orangeburg, South Carolina campus running on August 1, 2019. He defined his vision for the university and began cultivating a culture of “Elevation and Transformation.”

“The blessing for me in my entire career, it’s all been ordained by God. When you follow God’s will, everything else falls in line,” Warmack stated regarding his journey to the presidency at Claflin. He was in his fifth year as president of Harris-Stowe State University and not seeking a new position when he learned of the opportunity. After being contacted by the search firm recruiting for the position and encouragement from his mentor, he decided to consider the job. Warmack and his wife,
