Her story is one of resilience forged through adversity, perseverance shaped by faith, and an unshakable belief that destiny is not confined by age, circumstance, or setbacks. An accomplished attorney, licensed minister, and community leader, Shockley is a partner at Benton and Shockley Law, P.A., where she is widely respected for her work in family law and personal injury. In the courtroom, she is known not only for her legal skill, but also for her compassion and commitment to justice. Each case reflects her deeper mission to restore dignity, empower clients, and advocate for those navigating life’s most difficult moments. Yet her path to professional success was not linear. Like many who ultimately lead with power, Shockley’s journey includes seasons of struggle that could have easily defined her, but instead refined her.
That spirit of perseverance is deeply rooted in her connection to Delaware State University, a proud HBCU that played a transformative role in her life. One of the most defining moments in her journey came during her first year of college, when she ended the year with a 1.7 GPA and was placed on academic suspension, told that she could not return. Shockley often reflects that what felt like one of her greatest failures became the foundation for her greatest comeback. Through faith, healing, and determination, she would later return to college, earn her degree, go on to law school, and build a successful legal career. Today, she stands as a living testimony to the truth that failure is not final. She completed her degree and transformed challenge into triumph. Now, she serves as a member of Delaware State University’s Board of
Trustees, completing a full circle journey from student to graduate to institutional leader at the very same institution she once feared she had lost forever. Her presence on the Board is more than symbolic. It is a powerful testament to redemption, growth, and the impact HBCUs have in restoring confidence and cultivating leaders. Beyond her professional and academic achievements, Shockley is the visionary founder of You Are the Crown, a nonprofit organization devoted to helping women and girls discover their identity, purpose, and power through mentorship, education, and service. The organization reflects her lived truth that every woman carries a crown within her, waiting to be claimed, no matter her age or stage in life. Through mentoring and community engagement, Shockley reaches women who see themselves in her story. These are women who have been quietly constrained by fear or by expectations that are often deeply entrenched in
